How do Runners safely increase mileage?

The journal of orthopaedic and sports physical therapy recently published advise for runners on how to safely increase their running distances. The following is a synopsis of the article.

Training errors are the cause of a lot of running injuries . It is hugely important to train in the safest way possible no matter what standard of a runner you are.

Research now indicates that 10% is the amount to keep in mind when increasing running distance. Runners should not increase their running distance over 10% weekly.  This will help decrease the risk of running injuries.

It has been found that runners that increase their running distance by over 30% in a 2 week period are at increased risk of injury.
