What is Severs Disease?
Severs Disease is a problem causing heel pain that sometimes develops in active children during their growth spurts – typically between 10 and 15 years of age. The Achilles tendon at the back of the heel pulls on the growing heel bone causing pain and inflammation at the attachment point.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy for Severs disease will involve a biomechanical assessment to determine if the foot needs arch support or heel pads. Any tight or weak muscles will be identified and a suitable stretching and strengthening exercise regime will be prescribed. Ice can be helpful for pain relief . Training regimes will often need to be modified to decrease the stress on the heel . Your physiotherapist at Swords Physiotherapy clinic will advise on a graded return to sports.
