Headaches
Headaches are often caused by tight muscles or stiff neck joints. The under lying cause is often poor head posture and/or faulty ergonomics at work -such as working on a laptop computer for long periods. Headache pain usually radiates into the scalp on one or both sides. It may also spread down the neck into the upper shoulders. Stress can make the pain worse.
At Swords Physiotherapy we will assess the patients posture, muscle strength, joint flexibility and working posture. Depending on findings a treatment plan will be devised. Patient compliance with exercise prescription and posture correction is very important to get good long term results.
At Swords Physiotherapy we will spend a lot of time explaining to patients what we think the predisposing risk factors are for the individual. Once the patient understands and takes steps to address risk factors, they are well on the road to recovery.
Treatment will involve therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, postural correction, relaxation techniques and an ergonomic review. Dry needling on associated myofascial trigger points can also help. Stress management and sleep hygene will be advised. The physiotherapist will suggest visual and auditory cues to use throughout the day to remind the patient of correct posture.
