This is a common painful condition in which muscles become painful and tender to touch. Several areas of the body can be affected at the same time. It affects women more than men and can lead to significant dysfunction.
At Swords physiotherapy all our physiotherapists are experienced in treating Fibromyalgia. On initial consultation we assess the flexibility of the affected muscles and the joints that they work on. We test strength, check posture and palpate for specific tender spots in the muscle fibres.
Treatment will focus on decreasing pain using manual therapy, massage, myofascial dry needling, therapeutic ultrasound and T.E.N.S. Pain management including advice on sleep hygiene , stress management and activity levels . This multifaceted apprach empowers the patient to self manage their Fibromyalgia. Therapeutic exercises will be prescribed and videos of these emailed to the patient.
