Chest Physiotherapy Many chest problems benefit from chest physiotherapy such as chest infections, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. Rib expansion and muscle function will also be tested. A treatment plan will be devised to include breathing exercises, forced expiratory techniques, postural drainage and relaxation. Manual techniques such as “clapping” and “vibrating” the chest wall will be used if indicated. With chronic lung disease a self management program is important and patient will be instructed in this.
